Sohrab Tebyanian's profile

Natural & Architectural Highlights of Millennium Park

Based in Chicago, Sohrab Tebyanian founded and oversees the iconic Andriana Furs, a firm offering outerwear in a range of materials and styles. Passionate about life in the Windy City, Sohrab Tebyanian enjoys exploring the area’s recreational offerings. A centerpiece is the expansive Millennium Park, which combines natural features with breathtaking public architecture by international designers.

At the heart of the park is the five acre Lurie Garden, which was created in homage to Chicago’s official motto “City in a Garden,” or "Urbs in Horto.” The garden includes sections of flat, marshy land that reflect the original environment bordering Lake Michigan, as well as a “shoulder” hedge that rises 15 feet. The hedge's practical purpose is as a windbreak that protects the perennial garden, and it also represents poet Carl Sandburg’s description of Chicago as a “City of Big Shoulders.”

One architectural highlight is Cloud Gate, an elliptical stainless steel sculpture that was designed by UK artist Anish Kapoor with mercury as the inspiration. Visitors are encouraged to walk through the concave belly of the arch-shaped sculpture and view their reflections in the mirror-like stainless steel surfaces.

With 4,000 seats and additional seating for 7,000 on the Great Lawn, the Jay Pritzker Pavilion is a premier setting for public events. The Frank Gehry-designed pavilion features a state of the art sound system that was designed to mimic an indoor theater’s acoustics within a broader outdoor space.
